I’m not one to talk about myself or even be in photos. So bear with me until I get someone to take a photo or two of me and add to this bio.
I grew up in rural Upstate New York in a small town along the southeastern shore of Lake Ontario. Farm country with rolling hills and wetland areas formed by the glaciers.
I spent most of my time outdoors, coming home only for lunch, dinner, and bedtime. The rest of the day was spent exploring the woods, wading in creeks and ponds, climbing towering beech trees, and observing the natural world around me.
Neighbors never cared that I was on their land, and my parents didn’t worry where I was. Life in the country is great.
I Always Wanted to Know Why
Why do animals do what they do? Why do plants grow where they do? How did this rock form, and how did it get there?
It was this sense of wonder that drew me to photography. Through my images, I could share the world as I saw it—and return to them again and again, letting each photograph reveal new clues and deepen my understanding of the natural world.
Those first photos I took were far from perfect, but the four-by-six prints I got back from the developer were studied endlessly!
This section is still a work in progress. I don’t always articulate my thoughts and motivations as gracefully as others, so I’ll be spending some time reflecting before I share more.
