Waterfall and Icicles – December 1, 2024 365 Project

Day 27 of the 365 Project: Water and Icicles on a Cold Morning

Why Did I Take This Photo of a Waterfall with Icicles Forming

Today I took a friend to a location they have never visited before. This nature preserve has several waterfalls that are photogenic. The stream doesn’t have a large watershed so it is best to visit after a multi-day rain or the flow is low. But like it was today.

However, the preserve closes for the season tomorrow so I wanted to take him there today before it closes. I took several photos here the week before when more water was flowing. So today I didn’t take very many.

Not that I need many excuses to take waterfall photos, but I found a new angle to take a photo that also shows the icicles forming on the far side of the stream.

I’m happy with the image. The colors of the autumn leaves, the green moss and algae, and the whitish coating on the limestone make for a colorful image.

I’ll be back to this nature preserve and waterfalls when it reopens in the spring or early summer. At that time more water should be flowing over the falls!
