Day 23 of the 365 Project: Tight Squeeze for an Ash Tree at Clark Reservation
Why Did I Take a Photo of an Ash Tree Growing Out of Limestone?
Because trees, especially Ash trees, don’t grow in limestone.
I have wanted to publish a photo of this tree since I first saw it. From this angle, the tree is growing directly out of the limestone pavement on a bluff at Clark Reservation State Park.
In a way it is, but to be more precise it germinated in a small fracture in the bedrock and has grown up to fill the hole and overlap the opening.
I think it looks pretty cool and that is why I took a photo of it.
The question is, will it slowly strangle itself to death or will the Ash Borers get it first?
Like all things, time will tell.
Day 23 of 365 is in the books!
